Calvó-Armengol International Prize

The Calvó Prize is awarded every two years to a top researcher in economics or social sciences younger than 40 years old for contributions to the theory and comprehension of the mechanisms of social interaction.

Prize supporters:

The next recipient of the Calvó Prize will be selected in Fall 2019. The award ceremony and Prize activities will be held in Spring 2020.

Economics “Trobada”

The Economics “Trobada” is an annual gathering of Barcelona GSE affiliated professors that marks the beginning of the academic year, introduces new faculty and their work to the research community, and serves as a venue for debate and idea exchange on current Economics issues.

Barcelona GSE PhD Jamboree

The annual Jamboree provides a venue for PhD students across the Barcelona GSE community to exchange ideas and get feedback on their work in progress.

Barcelona JOCS

Barcelona JOCS seminars provide a meeting point for the game theory community in the Barcelona area. Seminars are held several times a year; in each seminar, one local speaker and one invited speaker present papers.

IDESCAT-Barcelona GSE Socioeconomic Dataset Project

The Barcelona GSE and the Statistical Institute of Catalonia (IDESCAT) have created a registry-level database for researchers interested in using the data that combines education, health, and other socio-economic data.

«la Caixa» Foundation continued its support for ground-breaking research at the Barcelona GSE by supporting the second annual call for these competitive grants for Barcelona GSE Affiliated Professors. Once again, 5 projects were awarded grants for their ground-breaking methodologies and direct implications for socioeconomic well-being.

Research Recognition Program

This program acknowledges and rewards Barcelona GSE affiliated professors who have published research papers in a list of international economic journals of high impact within the last three years.

Seed Grants Program

Barcelona GSE Seed Grants provide support for applied research, especially for young researchers.

A total of 42 projects have been awarded Seed Grants in the first three calls, and four of these later developed into ERC Grants

Barcelona GSE Focus

The Focus is a website that offers research-based analysis and commentary from economists and social scientists in the Barcelona GSE community.

In 2018-19, there were 21 new articles published on the Focus.

The site has 1,100 email subscribers and receives visits from 145 countries (80% from outside Spain).

Barcelona GSE is a member of the SOMMa Research Alliance, which safeguards scientific competitiveness in Spain

The Severo Ochoa Centres and Maria de Maeztu Units Alliance (SOMMa) gathers research centres and units that received the Spanish Severo Ochoa and María de Maeztu excellence awards respectively. Thanks to the support of the Spanish State Secretariat for Research, Development and Innovation, these centres and units have joined efforts to promote, strengthen and maximise at the national and international level both the value of science of excellence produced by research centres and units, as well as its economic and social impact.

Other research activities

Barcelona GSE Lecture Series

Organized with support from Banc Sabadell, the Barcelona GSE Lecture Series brings some of the world’s top scholars in economics to Barcelona to share their research with the School community.

In 2017-18, the lecture was delivered by Barcelona GSE Scientific Council member Hélène Rey (London Business School) on “The International Monetary System and the Role of the United States.”
